Honeymoon
on emiandjaph's travel map.
After travelling for the past 2 days to get from Croatia to Padua we were exhausted when we got to our hotel (wasn't helped by the fact that we caught the bus in the exact opposite direction...oops...). We had planned to get up super early yesterday morning to go into Venice but it ended up being a slooow start.
We got to the city in the late morning. Venice is pretty incredible. You step out of the train station and the grand canal is right there. There are mazes of tiny streets and canals and literally hundreds of small stone bridges winding around old buildings. Here is Japh in front of one of the canals:![]()
And Emi on one of the little bridges:![]()
Em's favourite moment wasn't the shopping (although that was very cool...coloured glass and Venetian masks make awesome window displays).. it was actually stepping out onto the banks of the grand canal in the lower part of the city. This is what it looks like:![]()
And Japh and Em looking happy in front of it:![]()
By this time Emi was bouncing around saying "I love Venice, I adore it, I love love love love it" and Japh was saying "mmm it's nice".
We found a couple of cool non-watery bits too, like the Piazza San Marco:![]()
And a gryphon statue that Fuzlet was dangerously oblivious to:![]()
And "the most beautiful bookshop in the world" (obviously had never seen Fullers):![]()
We spent ages trying to find a shop recommended by Lonely Planet (stupid Lonely Planet maps) and also tried to lose the masses of tourists. We only managed this once, but there was also what looked like a poo floating in the water, so maybe that was why people avoided that area. Sewerage district maybe.
Then, being on our honeymoon in Venice, we obviously had to go on a gondola. We will speak not of how expensive it was. We had a typical stripey gondola man:![]()
Here's us looking a bit awkward (everyone takes your photo when you're in one):![]()
Near collision!![]()
Ok not really. The gondola men call out in Italian when nearing a corner and negotiate who gets to go first.
And finally, here is Fuzlet enjoying the ride:![]()
So, Venice = best part of Italy! We had a great time. Off to a new country today, a small village in Switzerland south of Interlaken.
Love Em and Japh

Can see why you love Venice, looks like perfect weather for a honeymoon gondola ride too!
I love the photo of you two in the piazza
Sure hope Fuzlet makes it safely back to Tassie, what a star!
